Job Title: Part-Time Governess
Location: Downtown Charleston, SC (Local Candidates Only)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00–6:00 PM (Potential For Full-Time)
Compensation: $35 - $45/hour DOE
Position Overview:
A family of three is seeking a warm, experienced, and deeply intentional Part-Time Governess to support the early education of a bright and curious toddler. The role centers around play-based, Waldorf-inspired, nature-rooted learning for a 2-year-old girl who will be homeschooled with a customized curriculum.
This is a long-term opportunity to help shape a soulful, creative, and grounded foundation for a unique child in a home that values rhythm, beauty, and gentle structure. The right candidate is a former or current early childhood teacher with a degree in education, who can seamlessly shift into the role of private governess.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curate and implement age-appropriate learning experiences focused on imagination, creativity, and gentle structure.
- Guide early literacy, numeracy, and social development through storytelling, rhythm, music, and sensory play.
- Lead daily outdoor exploration and nature-based activities that align with seasonal themes and a Waldorf rhythm.
- Create a peaceful, enriching environment that honors the child’s pace, curiosity, and inner world
- Collaborate with the parent on evolving curriculum needs and creative planning.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required (Education or Early Childhood focus preferred).
- Prior experience as a classroom teacher is essential—this is a position for an educator.
- Minimum 5 years experience in early childhood education, homeschool, or governess roles.
- Deep understanding of Waldorf, Montessori, or Reggio Emilia philosophies.
- Passionate about nature, rhythm-based learning, and child-led exploration.
- Calm, reliable, highly discreet, and committed to fostering joy, depth, and development.
- Willingness to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement and pass a full background check.
- CPR/First Aid Certification required (or willing to obtain).
