Executive Butler/Housekeeper/Assistant/Chef - Live-in, Full-Time - Employer Relocation from the Palenville, NY (a.k.a. ‘The Catskills’) to Washington, DC

Seeking to hire for two male butlers who will assist principal in relocating from the Hudson Valley area to Washington DC from December, 2021 to February, 2022. One of these candidates will have the opportunity to stay on afterwards as a live-in, full-time butler/housekeeper/assistant/chef. *** Both positions for will have the option to be temporary until the relocation is completed and fully unpacked. Principal would prefer to have one butler/houseman work as a temp to help with the relocation, and the other butler/houseman to stay on after the move, permanently, but is certainly open to a temporary placement arrangement for just the relocation (itself), with two full-time people to assist in the estate liquidation and move. ***

During the move, the candidates will need to work as a team and stay in a nearby hotel or apartment. The activities include all the necessary work required for a high- level relocation and partial estate liquidation, including packing and orchestrating fine furniture restoration and selling of antiques, etc. via auction and estate sale.

After the move, the principal will need help around the house with daily household cleaning, dishes, laundry, grocery shopping (or picking up local take-out), meal prep, and cleanup (for 2 to 3 meals a day), unpacking and organizing the house after arrival, running quick occasional errands, sorting supplements and medications, opening incoming packages, driving principal to appointments, and miscellaneous tasks attending to principal in her daily life.

Equally important is the assistant work for the move: making phone calls to source and vet movers for a one-way move (from the Hudson Valley, NY to Washington DC). This person (or people) will play the key role in sourcing, vetting, negotiating, budgeting, hiring, and then supervising, and corresponding with superior “master” fine furniture restoration companies around Manhattan, vetting honest and reputable estate sale companies, as well as organizing transporting of several antique items to furniture restoration companies around NYC.

Many of the furniture items to be restored are located inside of a storage unit in Brookfield, CT. (over an hour’s drive away), and several other items that need to be restored are located within the principal’s home. Candidates will especially need to vet master furniture restoration companies (who specialize in metal and wood furniture restoration), local reputable auction houses, estate sale companies, as well as organizing transportation of items to temporary storage rentals and donations to local charities (for which contact information is available).... The approximate move-in date is scheduled to occur in early February.

While all this is occurring, the principal will need help with packing for the move, labeling boxes, and sorting through boxes of items to either keep and take to DC, go to restore/furniture restoration, to sell at an estate sale, and/or auction, or to give to donation. Client will be liquidating and downsizing about 30 to 50% of the home’s items, moving to Washington DC, and putting the house on the market with a realtor.

Description of the position:

The candidates will be carefully packing all inventory, tracking photos and labelling, in cooperation with the employer, who will be deciding which items can go to an auction and prepare for transportation to storage (for further transport to the new home, and to auction houses and estate sales). In addition, the candidates will be consulting with external parties such as storage unit rental facilities, dumpster rental companies, master furniture restoration companies, moving and insurance companies, auction houses, renting and/or buying necessary resources, etc.

Employer is not looking for just a mover, but candidates who either have experience with estate liquidations or can assist with seamlessly orchestrating it and are aware of the luxury and worth of items as they are used to in their position.
