Overview

An established, down-to-earth couple in the Westlake Hills suburb of Austin is seeking a Household Manager to care for their 10,000 sq. ft. home and guest house on 4 acres. The ideal candidate will be adaptable and comfortable, with experience in the administrative operation of the home, including maintaining household documentation and coordinate with the Mr to define the scheduling of regular household maintenance and projects, determining which tasks to delegate and which he will address personally.

Responsibilities include vehicle maintenance and management, vendor management and supervision while Principals are away, household and grocery inventory and stocking. The ideal candidate can prepare simple meals when required with the Principal’s preferred palette.  Additional duties include, prepping for and facilitating their return, occasional dinners for the Principal and informal guests, and coordinating more elevated service for business dinners or special events. 

Requirements

  • 5 - 10+ years experience managing a luxury residence.
  • Non-Smoker
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • Capable of passing an extensive background check, and BAI interview
  • Ability to identify issues and address independently
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal
  • Ability to seamlessly fit into a harmonious work environment
  • High level of discretion, loyalty, integrity, and honesty
  • Highly organized & excellent eye for detail
  • Familiarity with Crestron and Lutron systems
  • Experience handling the administrative duties of a luxury home
  • Comfort in the kitchen and willingness to learn
  • Formal service experience

Duties & Key Success Factors

  • High EQ & Self-Motivated
  • Provide bi-weekly status updates.
  • Attend monthly meetings, preferably on Saturday or Sunday mornings.
  • Establish procedures to avoid preventable emergencies
  • Maintain household documentation.
  • Pre- and Post-Arrival and Departure facilitation.  Occasionally on weekends
  • Cooking dinner and packing lunches when regular chef is not available (see Other Considerations)
  • Hospitality Coordination
  • Resetting rooms between guest visits
  • Grocery inventory and shopping
  • Table settings
  • Planning occasional/rare dinner parties with Chef/Catering supervision (see Other Considerations)
  • Run local errands (UPS, FedEx, Returns, and Dry Cleaning)
  • Assist the housekeeper in keeping the home tidy and presentable at all times
  • Fleet management of 4-5 vehicles
  • Inventory and maintain wine collection
  • Scheduling travel and calendar for nannies and other household personnel as needed.
  • Personal travel support, including coordinating air travel through private air operators, ground transportation, hotel reservations, and other planning preparations as needed.
  • Household vendor management.  Scheduling other vendors and services around the Principal’s schedule.

Other Considerations

EVENTS & COOKING
  • Formal dinner parties / sit-down dinners with multi-course meals / wine service - maybe 6-8 times / year. (8-12 people)
  • Large parties - (buffet, servers, bartenders, etc) - 1 or 2 times/year. (50-100 people)
  • Extended family visits once or twice per year.
  • Cooking is one week per month.  The full-time Chef has a ROTA schedule of 3 weeks on - 1 week off.  You will be asked to cook for the week they are off and the Principals are in town.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Ability to negotiate a multi-story house with stairs many times a day
  • Ability to use a ladder up to 6’
