JOB SUMMARY:

Purpose of role:
We are seeking a trustworthy, experienced, and detail-oriented Senior Landscaper to manage and maintain the grounds of a private family estate with multiple residences in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This role requires expertise in desert landscaping, low-water-use plant care, and maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of several distinct outdoor spaces across the estate. A successful candidate will take pride in creating and preserving elegant, serene, and sustainable outdoor environments tailored to the unique Arizona climate. The estate is located on an equestrian property. While equine experience is not required, basic knowledge of an equestrian facility is a plus.

This role will require evening and weekend work at times, and confidentiality and discretion are of paramount importance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all landscaped areas across the estate, including gardens, lawns, courtyards, walking paths, patios, and poolside areas.
  • Plant, prune, and care for native desert plants, trees, and ornamental shrubs suited to the region’s arid conditions.
  • Design and maintain seasonal planting beds.
  • Inspect and maintain drip irrigation systems for efficiency and water conservation; troubleshoot and repair as needed.
  • Manage composting, mulching, and soil health across the property.
  • Ensure all outdoor spaces are safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing for family members and guests.
  • Monitor plant health and pest activity; apply treatments when necessary (organic preferred).
  • Maintain outdoor lighting, fountains, garden décor, and other hardscape features.
  • Coordinate with vendors or contractors for major tree work, irrigation upgrades, or special projects.
  • Prepare the estate grounds for private events or seasonal transitions.
  • Keep detailed maintenance logs and recommend improvements to the Estate Manager.

Required Experience and Education:

  • 7+ years of landscaping or estate gardening experience, preferably in the Southwest U.S.
  • Solid knowledge of Arizona native plants, drought-tolerant species, and sustainable landscaping practices.
  • Experience with high-end residential or estate properties is a strong plus.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while following homeowner preferences.
  • Discreet and respectful of privacy; must maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Familiarity with outdoor lighting, irrigation controllers, and general garden maintenance tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to clear a background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in extreme heat conditions.

Characteristics:

  • Ability to maintain absolute and total confidentiality.
  • Professional discretion and good judgement.
  • Highly energetic with the ability to motivate others and create a team environment where everyone wants to do their best and deliver results.
  • Possesses a positive, professional, and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Innovative, resourceful and conscientious of organization’s assets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and strong cross-functional relationships across an organization to achieve common goals.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic; does whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Complete integrity with an uncompromised reputation.
  • Ability to work proactively and take initiative to support the changing needs of the team.
