A large estate in McLean, VA, is seeking a full-time Housekeeper with prior experience in maintaining high-end luxury homes or hospitality environments. The ideal candidate will excel in a setting that values ambitious standards and will be adaptable to changing routines and schedules. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, a clear communication style, and the ability to reflect the family’s values when interacting with guests.

 

Position Overview:

This role requires a high degree of organization, attention to detail, and excellent intuition. The successful candidate must exercise discretion, demonstrate maturity, and use sound judgment in all tasks. Additionally, they must be articulate, possess a strong work ethic, and excel at time management. Flexibility and proactivity are key qualities for this role.

The Housekeeper will report to the House Manager and take direction from the Head Housekeeper, working closely with other household staff.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

A daily and weekly checklist of tasks is provided, although duties may vary based on special events, seasons, or household requirements. Responsibilities include a combination of light, medium, and deep cleaning.

 

Typical Tasks:

First Floor:

  • Daily laundry of household items (e.g., rags, towels)
  • Emptying and loading dishwashers
  • Managing trash, recycling, and compost disposal as needed
  • Cleaning the kitchen to set standards
  • Straightening living areas (dusting, mopping, vacuuming)
  • Daily bathroom cleaning

Basement:

  • Straightening living areas (dusting, mopping, vacuuming)
  • Daily cleaning of bathrooms
  • Changing linens in the guest suite for guest arrivals/departures
  • Cleaning the guest room kitchenette daily

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of housekeeping experience, ideally in large, high-end luxury homes or luxury hospitality
  • Ability to work with a high degree of confidentiality
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Capable of safely climbing and descending stairs and ladders
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., email, phone apps for timekeeping)
  • Experience using data devices and smartphones for communication
  • Reliable transportation or guaranteed commuting method
  • Fluency in English; U.S. citizenship or permanent residency preferred
  • Successful completion of a background check and reference check

  • Willingness to stay with the family for many years, fostering a long-term relationship

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $38+ per hour (including overtime and holiday pay)
  • 10 days of PTO
  • Unlimited sick leave (with a doctor’s note as required)
  • Medical insurance stipend 
  • 6 paid holidays
  • Annual bonus

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 11am to 7pm
  • Flexibility to stay later or occasionally work a weekend day is required during special events
