Description

Personal Assistant & Companion for Semi-Retired  Artist(New York & Vermont-Based)
Upper East Side, NYC (with travel to Vermont for 3-4 months)
Full-time with flexibility, including overnights, extended stays, and travel as needed.  General hours are Monday through Friday  9am - 5pm
Commensurate with experience, capped at 150K

A thoughtful, caring, and organized individual is needed to support a semi-retired artist and printmaker in his 70s and his wife.  The ideal candidate will be based in New York City and be available to travel to the family’s second residence in Vermont as needed. This is a hands-on, heart-forward role for someone who enjoys helping others maintain independence and quality of life while offering consistent, reliable support to both the principal and his wife.  A lot of this role is simple "coverage" so the wife can do what she needs to do outside of the house.  During these down times the assistant can be managing insurance claims, organizing and project management.   MUST be ok to be in Vermont in a rented place for you for somewhere between 3- 4 months.  MUST be able to drive in NYC

This person will serve as a true right hand to the wife—stepping in seamlessly when she is away, and ensuring that her husband remains cared for, supported, and gently guided throughout the day. When the wife travels, the assistant will live in and stay overnight to provide continuity, reassurance, and structure.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide daily structure and companionship to principal, assisting with calendar management, appointments, and simple daily routines
Accompany principal on walks, outings, and appointments (must be comfortable driving)
Assist with personal organization and household tasks such as managing emails, sorting paperwork, filing, and helping with basic technology
Run errands as needed, including renewing documents (e.g., passport), coordinating transportation, shopping, and pick-ups
Support principal in creative efforts and special projects, including efforts to return to his studio
Oversee and help manage household and personal projects, coordinating with vendors or service providers as needed
Travel to Vermont with or on behalf of the family; overnights and extended stays required when the spouse is away
Stay in the residence and provide full-time live-in support when the wife travels—serving as a trusted, compassionate, and capable stand-in
Maintain a calm, respectful, and supportive presence throughout all interactions
Creating filing systems would be ideal
Pet Care: Help take the dog to the groomer and vet
Organizing -- helping to organize in either NYC apartment of home in Vermont
Oversee and help as needed for a renovation in Vermont

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A patient, warm, and proactive demeanor
Prior experience supporting someone with mild cognitive or physical limitations (though no medical care is required)
Strong organizational and tech-savvy skills—able to manage both digital and physical spaces with ease
A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Flexibility to travel and live-in during periods when the wife is away
A discreet, trustworthy, and professional approach to caregiving and personal assistance
A deep sense of responsibility and compassion for the people they support

Additional Notes: This role does not involve personal hygiene or medical care. Should those needs arise, a licensed nurse’s aide will be brought in. This is a long-term, relationship-based role for someone who finds purpose in offering meaningful, thoughtful support to a creative and kind individual—and in becoming a valued extension of the family.
