Note: our client will ONLY consider chefs who have worked at least at the sous chef level in a 3-star Michelin restaurant for 2 plus years.

Our client in Silicon Valley is looking for one of the Nation's most accomplished Chefs to join their service team. The principals enjoy a wide variety of cuisines; their preferences range from quite simple to much more complex, and they always remain focused on foods that are premium quality and artfully prepared. Whereas there is no food budget, the expectation is that the chef reduces waste at every turn.

The senior-level chef who is chosen for this role will enjoy working in a beautiful and fully equipped auxiliary chef's kitchen.

You are a master of all things food, wine, and service. Preparing authentic ethnic cuisines brings you as much joy as putting out a trendy 7-course dinner.

 Your culinary career has taken you around the world, and you've picked up a wealth of tricks along the way; you've spent time in the best Michelin restaurants and know how to execute small, intimate dinners efficiently and significantly larger events with ease. Your many years of experience serving prominent clients have helped to hone your ability to work in a thoughtful and refined fashion. You understand the importance of professional boundaries and have a service heart.

You're a jovial and happy person in good physical, mental, and social health who is looking for a dream job! Feeling appreciated within in a collaborative environment is important to you; you have a phenomenal work ethic and enjoy a job well done.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Cooks and serves lunch and dinner five days a week
    • High protein and fiber, mostly plant-based
    • This could be groups of 6 to 20
    • Larger events 2-6 times a year
    • 3-4 days would be healthy options
    • 1-2 days would be entertaining, where anything goes!
  • Stocks home with regular items
  • Keeps 3-Michelin star style organization, cleanliness, and hygiene standards 
  • Hires and manages help to run events with excellence

Additional Information:

  • Chef schedule is usually Tuesday-Saturday, subject to change due to family travel, e.g., during holidays when the family is away
  • Family lives in two homes within half a block of each other, food would be served in either location
  • The kitchen the chef cooks at is in one of the residences; there's also an outdoor kitchen with an industrial size pizza oven, smoker, 4 cooktops and more
  • One principal works in Menlo Park Monday-Thurday, and the other two adults are at home
  • There are no pets 
  • Household has a car for work use
  • Family provides a laptop and phone for work use
  • Shopping: family likes freshest ingredients from farmers markets
  • Family has employed professional chefs for 24 years!

 Required Qualifications

  • Minimum sous chef level at 3-star Michelin restaurant for 2 plus years
  • Must be willing to relocate to Northern California. (full relocation offered)
  • Must have demonstrated longevity in past positions 
  • Highly organized, ethical, flexible, and discreet
  • Prompt and dependable. Punctuality is a must
  • Clear communicator who is responsive, forthright, and views themselves as part of a larger team
  • Forward-thinker with the ability to look ahead and anticipate the needs of the principals
  • Positive agent for change and continuous improvement. Able to graciously accept feedback
  • Sound management techniques that demonstrate a commitment towards balancing high quality with cost-efficiency
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality or service
  • Able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
  • A valid driver's license, clean driving record, non-drug user, and non-smoker/non-vaper are required
  • Covid-19 vaccination preferred
  • Good written and spoken English knowledge is required, and candidates must be eligible to work legally in the United States
  • Excellent references and a clean background check (due to the sensitive nature of the position, a background check will be conducted prior to the start of employment)
  • Ideal: four-year culinary college. Two-year culinary college or learning on the job in Michelin-starred restaurants
  • Private chef experience would be a bonus, not required

  • 175K+++ | DOE
