Housekeeper Job Description

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our household team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of a 20,000 square foot home and its fine furnishings. The position is based in NYC, with travel to Southampton during the summer. Housing will be provided during travel. The ideal candidate must have good proficiency in English and be available to work Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM. Additionally, the Housekeeper should be able to prepare simple breakfast items, such as eggs, while performing cleaning duties.

The Housekeeper will report to the House Manager and work alongside the household team to ensure the main residence is kept in pristine condition. This position may require assisting at other seasonal properties of the owners as needed. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as requested is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks and deep cleaning throughout the residence

  • Handle laundry and ironing with special care for fine garments and linens, assisting the laundress as needed, including weekends

  • Provide formal serving during events, parties, and family meals

  • Assist in the care of family pets

  • Prepare light meals, including breakfast items (such as eggs and basic dishes)

Duties:

  • Set tables and serve meals to the family

  • Thoroughly clean bathrooms, bedrooms, and living spaces, ensuring all surfaces are dusted and trash is emptied according to NYC recycling guidelines

  • Clean fine surfaces and care for antiques (excluding Chinese artwork, paintings, or sculptures)

  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors; vacuum carpets, rugs, and draperies

  • Make beds, change linens, and turn down beds as needed

  • Deep clean the gym, including all equipment and accessories

  • Steam Mr.'s suits as requested; assist with towel and sheet care on weekends

  • Polish and maintain silver, flatware, serving trays, and other fine pieces

  • Work with the Chef and House Manager to restock refrigerators and the family pantry

  • Assist the House Manager with packing and unpacking for owners’ travels

  • Walk and feed the dogs when the family is in residence

  • Report any domestic repairs or replacements needed in the household

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous experience in private housekeeping

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest cleaning standards

  • Ability to cook simple breakfast items

  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
