Our lovely client in St. Helena, California has an immediate need for a skilled live-in Estate Caretaker to perform general hands-on maintenance duties on the interior and exterior of their 150-acre estate. The ideal candidate for this position will be detail-focused, a self-starter and a collaborative, service-oriented team player. Honesty, flexibility, and a positive can-do attitude toward your work are a must.

This is very much a hands-on job; applicants with primarily "white glove" service experience are unlikely to be a good fit. Over the last 25 years, the client has employed just two Caretakers. They value their employees and hope to work with them for many years to come. This should excite you!

  • Full-Time | Live-In
  • Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure that the main house and the out-buildings are maintained to high standards
  • Oversee household staff 
  • Inspect buildings and grounds in the course of daily work
  • Clean the general outdoor areas, exterior hardscapes, furniture and equipment
  • Tree work, brush clearing, irrigation, reforestation and fire management
  • Move and store outdoor furniture as needed 
  • Address basic repairs and general maintenance tasks in a timely manner
  • Report the need to hire specialized service providers for more complex repairs
  • Help with the supervision of service providers and coordinate access to buildings
  • Schedule, invoice and manage relationships with vendors 
  • Address insect/rodent concerns around and inside structures
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper condition
  • Maintain records of repairs and inventories of supplies
  • Tackle clean up and organizational projects
  • Maintain/service vehicles and equipment- pickup truck, 2 ATVs, mowers, Mercedes, water trailer
  • Occasional evening driving when owners are in residence
  • Run errands as required
  • Collect mail and packages
  • Help with holiday decorations
  • Help with parties/events set up/break down
  • Accept and transport deliveries of heavy boxes and packages
  • Provide back-up in emergency safety situations and other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Positive attitude
  • Must be authorized to work legally in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Five plus years of hands-on experience on a large private estate with substantial longevity in past position(s)
  • Excellent references from past employers
  • Well-organized and good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Covid-19 vaccinated

Accommodations: 

  • Housing is paid for by the client
  • Two-bedroom free-standing house with a private kitchen, bathroom, and wifi with a private entrance
  • Please note that our client is open to a partner living in with the hired candidate
  • No children, please

 Compensation and Benefits:

  • $90,000-$110,000 or higher, dependent upon experience
