Description

The Property Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the beauty, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of a private estate, which includes multiple buildings and extensive grounds. This hands-on role involves daily maintenance, landscaping, organic gardening and coordination of various upkeep and repair projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in their work, and maintains the highest standards of professionalism and care. This position is 40 hours a week including Saturday and Sunday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily estate operations, including maintenance, repairs, landscaping, and seasonal upkeep
  • Act as on-site lead for house construction and maintenance projects
  • Monitor and maintain optimal performance of all MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems; manage vendor schedules and service logs
  • Maintain landscaping, including lawns, flower beds, vegetable gardens, trees, and hedges
  • Ensure outdoor spaces (e.g., walking paths, terraces, and recreational areas) are clean and maintained.
  • Handle snow removal based on local weather conditions
  • Adhere to safety protocols for all tools, equipment, and materials
  • Execute emergency response plans for power outages, severe weather, or other critical events
  • Manage the family’s personal vehicles, including regular servicing and detailing
  • Maintain updated inventories of materials and supplies, coordinate replenishment as necessary
  • Run errands and complete special requests as needed
  • Travel to and assist with other properties as required

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, general repairs, and home maintenance
  • Proficiency in landscaping, irrigation systems, and organic vegetable gardening
  • Ability to operate and maintain tools and outdoor equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, skid steers)
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team; able to take direction and show initiative
  • Perform duties outside the normal scope of work to assist other areas as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, and flexible hours when required (early mornings, late evenings)
