Lead Houseman Wanted- Hawaii Kauai
The responsibilities for this position include:
-Household Maintenance and Repairs: The home has numerous systems and pieces of
equipment that must be observed, understood, and maintained. Various maintenance
and repair tasks will be performed on equipment including hot tub, pool, sauna, and cold
plunge maintenance, and other household repairs as needed such as minor drywall and
painting touch-ups. Experience with exterior painting is a plus.
-Vehicle Management and Driving: Monitor vehicles for operability and schedule
routine and unplanned maintenance for household vehicles and golf carts, including
registration renewals, insurance updates, and safety inspections. Clean and maintain
household vehicles and golf carts. Drive principals and guests as needed.
-Prepare Home for Occupancy: Check systems pre-arrival for proper operation and
functionality. Ensure food items are fully stocked. Charge all vehicles and equipment for
use. Check cleanliness of entire property and refresh the bedrooms; changing the linens
for guest and family stays
-Housekeeping: Assist housekeeper in conducting regular light and deep cleaning to
uphold the home's cleanliness and aesthetic appeal, paying special attention to custom
finishes that require careful handling and specific product usage for cleaning. This
includes the exterior furniture, gates, and amenities of the home
-Appliance Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of household appliances, including but
not limited to washers, dryers, stove-tops, coffee machines ensuring they are
operational and coordinating repairs as needed
-Minor Repairs: Address basic maintenance needs and coordinate with professionals
for more complex issues
-Inventory Management: Maintain a detailed record of household items and supplies,
restocking as necessary. Order supplies as needed to keep house stocked to desired
levels without creating waste
-Organization: Keep various home areas like closets, pantries, and storage spaces
orderly to enhance functionality and accessibility. Maintain organization that aids in
preventing obstructions to the family’s daily routines and mitigates general household
safety concerns such as trip hazards
-Mail and Package Management: Handle all incoming and outgoing mail and packages,
ensuring proper documentation and distribution within the home
-Errands and Shopping: Perform errands, including grocery shopping, to keep the home
well-prepared for the family's arrival and stay
-Laundry: Manage laundry, including special care for bed linens and towels, as well as
family laundry when residents are home
-Weekly Walkthroughs: Perform weekly inspections to evaluate the property's condition
and identify any maintenance or cleaning requirements
-Scheduling and Supervision: Schedule and supervise other service providers such as
landscapers and pool cleaners, including coordination for larger repair projects
-Reporting and Communication: Compile weekly reports for the Principals, detailing
activities, expenses, and significant occurrences, and maintain regular communication
for updates. Gain approval as needed for required purchases and reconcile receipts for
work credit card account
-Special Projects: Manage and execute special projects or events, ensuring everything
runs smoothly and efficiently. These include holiday preparations, gift wrapping, and set
up for social events
-Ad Hoc Duties: Be prepared to undertake any additional tasks as requested by the
Principals. These include donating home goods, taking cardboard to recycling, larger
repair projects, and picking up gift cards
The following qualifications are essential:
Experience in housekeeping, home repairs, and household management: Proven track
record of managing the daily operations of a large residence, with particular expertise in
housekeeping, including both light and deep cleaning techniques, and the care of
custom finishes. Experience with the management of household systems including
pools, vehicles, and technology is also essential.
Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously manage tasks requiring special attention,
such as handling custom finishes, organizing various home areas, and maintaining a
detailed inventory of household items.
Time Management and Scheduling Skills: Proficiency in scheduling and overseeing the
work of other service providers, such as landscapers and pool cleaners, and
coordinating larger repair projects as needed.
Communication Skills: Strong ability to compile detailed reports, maintain regular
communication with Principals or their representatives, and effectively manage special
projects or events.
Problem-Solving Skills: Competence in identifying maintenance or cleaning needs
during weekly walkthroughs and addressing basic maintenance issues, with the ability
to coordinate with professionals for more complex repairs.
Personal Initiative and Self-Motivation: The role is ideal for someone who is self-led,
highly motivated, and capable of working independently to improve the condition of the
home, especially since the home is part-time occupied.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to perform a wide range of tasks, from
managing mail and packages to running errands, including grocery shopping, and
undertaking any additional tasks as requested by the Principals.
Special Care Skills: Knowledge in the specialized care of bed linens, towels, and family
laundry, especially when the residents are home, and the ability to oversee appliance
maintenance to ensure all household appliances are in good working order.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to enhance the functionality and
accessibility of various home areas, such as closets, pantries, and storage spaces, and
to improve the overall organization of the home.
Physical Ability: Capable of physically demanding tasks, including but not limited to
cleaning, lifting, and moving items as part of housekeeping duties, minor repairs, and
special projects
Discretion and Trustworthiness: High level of discretion and trustworthiness, given the
private nature of the role and the need to manage the home in the owners' absence.
Adaptability to Principals' Preferences: Ability to adapt to and respect the Principals'
personal preferences and requirements, especially in preparing the home for
occupancy.
Typical Daily Schedule when home is occupied (40% of the year):
