Job Description:
A high-profile principal based in Pacific Heights, San Francisco, is seeking a Private Houseman to join their dynamic, fully-staffed household. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a wide range of household duties, working closely with the principal and household team to ensure the smooth operation and upkeep of the residence. This role requires an individual who can provide exceptional service while maintaining a low profile, respecting the family’s privacy, and seamlessly blending into the daily rhythms of the household.

The Private Houseman will work alongside a morning houseman for a few hours each day, particularly on larger projects that require two people to manage. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, luxurious environment, with occasional support needed at a second property in Marin County, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Household Maintenance: Assist with daily cleaning, organizing, and maintaining all areas of the home, including common areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Ensure the residence is always in pristine condition while blending seamlessly into the family’s routines.
  • Errands & Shopping: Manage household errands such as grocery shopping, dry cleaning, picking up packages, and handling deliveries.
  • Laundry & Wardrobe Management: Care for clothing and household linens, including laundering, ironing, folding, and organizing. Assist with wardrobe organization and care.
  • Household Supplies & Inventory: Track inventory of household supplies and ensure necessary items are stocked, from cleaning products to pantry goods.
  • Light Household Repairs: Handle minor maintenance and repairs or coordinate with vendors and contractors when necessary.
  • Support for Principal: Assist with personal tasks and day-to-day needs, such as scheduling appointments, setting up for events, or any special requests as needed.
  • Event & Entertaining Support: Assist in setting up and managing events, gatherings, or entertaining in the home. Ensure a smooth flow of activities and that all guest needs are met.
  • Second Property Assistance: On occasion, provide assistance and support at a second property in Marin County, including managing logistics, overseeing maintenance, and ensuring the property is ready for use.
  • Collaboration with Morning Houseman: Overlap with the morning houseman for a few hours each day to ensure larger projects, such as deep cleaning, event preparation, or household organization, are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
  • On-Call Availability: While primary working hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, flexibility to be on call after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a houseman, butler, or in a similar household role.
  • Strong knowledge of household maintenance, organization, and management.
  • High attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the principal and take initiative without constant direction.
  • Exceptional discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Ability to blend seamlessly into the household environment and support the family without disrupting their daily routines.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor at all times, with the ability to interact with guests, vendors, and staff as needed while remaining unobtrusive.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with flexibility in hours and willingness to be on-call when required.
  • Valid driver's license and cleaning driving record (for travel to Marin County on occasion).
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move household items as needed.

Compensation:
Competitive pay and salary, based on experience, plus benefits package.

How to Apply:
If you are a motivated, detail-oriented, and reliable individual with a passion for providing exceptional service while maintaining privacy and professionalism, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the position. The start date is ASAP, and interviews will be scheduled promptly.
