We’re a kind, thoughtful family in Arlington, VA, looking for a professional, full-time Household Manager & Family Assistant to help keep our home and family life running smoothly. This is a hybrid role, roughly 50/50 between childcare and household management, with consistent responsibilities that shift slightly by season.
This is not a nanny job—it’s a family-facing support role for someone who takes pride in creating flow, tackling to-dos, and bringing lasting organization to a busy household. We’re looking for someone who is deeply organized, proactive, steady, and nurturing—and who’s just as happy making a dinner plan as they are managing an Amazon return or jumping in the pool with our kids.
About the Role
This is a structured split-schedule position designed for someone who values consistency and productivity, with a generous mid-day break. You’ll work mornings and afternoons, supporting household logistics and family needs.
During the school year:
- Mornings are focused on home logistics—organization, errands, light cleaning, vendor coordination, meal prep, and general support for the full household.
- Afternoons include school pickup, kid activities, and transition support.
During summer & school breaks:
You’ll spend more time with the kids—camps, outings, and activity supervision.

Household Management & Family Support (Approx. 50%)
- Own and maintain organization systems throughout the entire home (closets, play areas, pantry, storage)
- Lead or support small household projects (e.g., seasonal clothing swaps, toy rotation, entryway reorganization)
- Coordinate all household vendors (cleaners, lawn care, pool, pest control, etc.)
- Assist with or prepare simple, healthy family dinners (recipes and guidance provided)
- Run errands for the household: groceries, dry cleaning, post office, returns/exchanges for all family members
- Track and replenish household inventory: groceries, paper goods, toiletries, kids' supplies, etc.
- Daily light upkeep: unload dishwasher, wipe counters, manage trash, quick vacuum as needed
(Weekly deep cleaning is handled by professionals)
- Walk the dog and coordinate vet and grooming appointments
- Manage car maintenance appointments and reminders
- Prep homeschool materials (~2 hrs/week)
- Help with seasonal decorating (3–4x/year)

Who You Are
- Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented—you love creating and maintaining systems
- Project-minded—you spot inefficiencies and solve problems without being asked
- Warm and steady—especially when working with neurodivergent or sensitive children
- Proactive and independent—you’re a doer who doesn’t wait to be asked
- Tech-comfortable—Google Calendar, shared lists, online orders, reminders
- Comfortable in the kitchen—you can prep or assist with meals for the whole family
- Pool- and pet-friendly—comfortable supervising swim time and walking a friendly dog
