SEEKING ASPEN SEASONAL SUMMER CHEF
Aspen-based family is seeking a seasonal “Summer Chef” for approximately June 1 – Sept 15th. Depending on candidate’s wishes and Employer’s satisfaction, this position could develop into a full time year-round position after the completion of season. Salary DOE, travel expenses, and vehicle use reimbursement are included. You will want to have your own vehicle with you to enjoy your time off. Benefits are offered as well.
This is a live out position with accommodations provided for chef, and if needed their significant other, for the duration of the agreed upon start and end date. All expenses related to accommodation are covered. Accommodation is off property, close to shopping and town, so you are not isolated and can enjoy your summer and days off. There is ample opportunity afforded to you for fishing, water activities, hiking, and sightseeing.
Position requires chef to shop and prepare meals (brunch or lunch and dinner) for a small family, (less than 4 per day) as well as preparing meals for a larger staff (buffet style). The Employers enjoy a large range of cuisines (Spa, Mediterranean, Latin, Italian, French, Asian, European and Classic American). This position really allows you to flex your culinary muscles and you are not restricted with specialty diets and limited menus. The lady of the house likes to review, discuss and approve some menus, but also loves a chef that brings a wide range of cooking talents to the table. Staff meal is not limited by a strict budget, and can be an extension of what the chef is serving that day to the family within reason.
A large focus of the position is on sourcing the best local produce and products, with the highest quality meats and seafoods being offered. Local grown, or local raised are always the preference. The family also has a substantial size garden that produces lovely vegetables and herbs throughout the season – with a small gardening staff that maintains and harvests it for you. A chef with some pastry experience is preferred or a willingness and ability to procure local baked goods for brunches and snacks. The kitchens are very well appointed and of restaurant quality or better. Uniforms are provided or supplemented as needed. A clean and professional appearance is essential as you assimilate into the family’s home and your presentation must be to the level of the entire household staff. You will work alongside service staff, management team, and housekeeping with a team mindset essential for a completely harmonious home.
Schedule will be discussed with the right candidate and there is some flexibility needed for days off when and if the family is entertaining or attending functions that take them off property for meals. This however is a very manageable work week, averaging approximately 40-45 hours per week which includes your travel time to and from as well as shopping. In other words, this is a position for someone that really values a work/life balance.
Candidates are subject to a vigorous background check, clean driving record and must be a non-smoker with excellent appearance and hygiene.
Pre-season placement and training is likely, with travel and “trial period” compensation of course.
