Newborn Care Specialist (Live-In Nanny) 

A private family in Florida is seeking a warm, energetic and experienced full time Live-In Newborn Care Specialist (NCS). This is a live-in position requiring 24/7 availability. However, initially the typical schedule would be an evening shift of 10- 12 hours, i.e., 7pm-7am or similar where in most cases light sleeping by the NCS is permitted. The family will work with the NCS to develop a proper schedule with appropriate rest thereafter. This position reports directly to the Principals and Ranch Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The family home is located on an equine ranch in Ocala, Florida. This first-time two-parent home with a full-time executive housekeeper, and other staff, would initially free up the NCS during daytime hours. The NCS would provide mostly overnight monitoring and support of a two-month-old newborn and be relieved by the parents or other staff in the morning.  When traveling to equine events or holidays the NCS would be required to travel with the family for round-the-clock care.

In this position, the job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Minimum demonstratable 5 years of experience as a Newborn Care Specialist or similar nanny role supporting private families
  • Assistance with lactation and breastfeeding issues
  • Bathing, diapering, and bottle preparation for the baby
  • Bottle feeding
  • Sleep training and helping the baby find a regular sleep schedule
  • Newborn care education for parents
  • Nutritional intake monitoring
  • Soothing techniques
  • Baby laundry, Nursery cleaning and organization
  • Care for the newborn at night while parents’ sleep, providing attentive, hands-on care for the newborn throughout the overnight hours
  • Manage nighttime feedings, diaper changes, and soothing the baby back to sleep
  • Establish and maintain consistent routines, including feeding, napping, and bedtime
  • Monitor milestones and collaborate with parents to foster the child’s growth
  • Monitor the baby’s health and well-being, including maintaining logs of sleep, feeding, and diapering patterns
  • Collaborate with Exec HK to organize and restock baby supplies as needed
  • Provide daily updates to parents on the baby’s nighttime activities, milestones, and overall progress
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for the baby, ensuring all feeding equipment and supplies are sterilized and ready
  • Identify and respond to any signs of illness or discomfort, communicating concerns to the parents promptly
  • Ensure a calm, quiet atmosphere conducive to the baby’s rest

 

COMPETENCIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

 

  • Mid-career candidates preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of professional nanny experience, with a focus on young children
  • Previous long-term childcare experience with verifiable verbal references
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (pediatric focus required)
  • Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the baby’s and family’s needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parents in an involved household
  • Flexibility for changing schedules
  • Comfortable with managing transitions, including the move to a new home on the ranch first quarter of next year
  • Expertise in early childhood education and fostering developmental milestones
  • Willingness to collaborate with another nanny or staff and adapt to the family’s needs.
  • Valid US Work Authorization, Valid passport and ability to travel domestically or internationally as needed.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and reliabilty
  • Comfortable with pets

 

ACCOMMODATIONS

This is a Live In position and requires applicant to live in main house on property in Ocala, FL.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree preferred.  5-years minimum experience in this role or equivalent education is required. Background in early childhood health and nutrition is highly desirable. Experience working for a UHNW private family is preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong English language communication and interpersonal abilities.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Certified Newborn Care Specialist" (CNCS) credential or
  • Newborn and Infant Care Professional (NICP)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (pediatric focus required)
  • Valid driver license with clean record

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding principals, guests and day to day activities is essential
  • Must possess a true service heart; a positive and outgoing personality and share that in interactions with principal, guests and coworkers
  • Maintain the highest level of hospitality services, always alert, friendly, and able to assist baby, principal and guests politely 
  • Ensure the highest standards of first aid, safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene are met
  • Establish systems, inventories, and procedures to streamline and improve the baby’s care program.
  • Employee must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures, which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook
  • Candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
  • Must have a personal vehicle to travel from location to local town for personal needs.
  • The Company operates as a drug free/smoke free Smoking is not allowed on the property, to include but is not limited to, company housing, vehicles, offices or on company machines.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, background and reference checks
  • All other duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/ move up to 30 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet, hot or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; large farm animals, outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat.
