Job Title: Private Chef
Reports to: Principal or Estate Manager
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00am- 6:00pm
Location: Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Must Be Willing To Travel With Family, Live Out
Position Overview:
A family of three is seeking an experienced private chef. Both parents work from home, and the child will be home-schooled. Primary residence is in Downtown Charleston, SC with other residences under construction. Family is developing a 200 acre Biodynamic Farm in South Carolina. Chef must be willing to travel with the family, typically between California and South Carolina.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking seasonal, farm-to-table, organic meals using the freshest, highest quality ingredients, and will be able to work independently and manage all aspects of the household’s culinary needs. Family is from Northern California and has embraced the “slow food” approach to cooking that celebrates simple preparations of healthy, seasonal, and local cuisine. Favorite chefs include Alice Waters, Melissa Perello, and Thomas Keller.
Family enjoys a variety of cuisines, including Californian, Italian, Mediterranean, Vietnamese, and Healthy Comfort Food. The family eats mostly organic meats, fish, vegetables, and fruit with some grains. One family member is allergic to gluten and dairy. Child eats 4 toddler-sized meals a day plus snacks, parents eat about two meals a day.
Private Chef Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily meals for family members and guests, in accordance with the household’s preferences and dietary needs, prep some meals and snacks for the weekend
- Grocery shop and source ingredients, ensuring the highest quality and freshness
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and all cooking equipment
- Ensure proper food storage and handling to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage
- Plate meals, set and bus the table, clean whatever dishes weren’t cleaned from night before
- Manage special requests and cater to individual preferences of the household members
- Provide exceptional service, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all meal times
- Follow all health and safety regulations and maintain a safe kitchen environment
Private Chef Requirements:
- Extensive experience as a private chef in a private residence, will consider candidates with a excellent culinary background and success as an executive chef in upscale restaurants who are looking to transition to private cooking and have a passion for service
- Culinary school degree or certificate from an accredited institution is required
- Strong knowledge of various cuisines, cooking techniques, and gluten and dairy restrictions
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, efficient in meal prep, detail-oriented
- Knowledge of cleanliness and care for the finest kitchen materials, tools, appliances, and trim
- Ability to work independently and manage all aspects of the household’s culinary needs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt meals to family’s preferences
- Professional and discreet demeanor, be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Compensation:
Hourly Pay is $55/hr. This is a full-time hourly position.
