A client seeks a dedicated Gardener/Caretaker with a passion for gardening and a collaborative spirit to nurture their 16-acre estate in Greenwich, CT. This role is perfect for someone who finds joy in cultivating all types of gardens, tending to greenhouses, and contributing to the overall beauty and functionality of a private estate. The ideal candidate will work closely with the existing Property Manager and Estate Manager, bringing interest for horticulture and a willingness to assist with various projects and everyday errands.

5-day workweek, Monday–Friday (8 AM – 4 PM)

Responsibilities include:

• Manage and care for the estate’s greenhouse, vegetable garden, orchard, and expansive grounds, ensuring they thrive year-round.

• Oversee landscape vendors and local laborers, fostering clear communication and teamwork to maintain the property’s pristine condition.

• Embrace hands-on gardening tasks, from planting and pruning to seasonal care like leaf removal and assisting with snow plowing when needed.

• Create and maintain schedules for equipment and grounds maintenance, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

• Keep a watchful eye on the property, including occasional weekend checks when the owners are away, to ensure everything is in order.

• Arrange flower displays (5 small to medium arrangements per week) to brighten the estate—a plus for those who enjoy this creative task.

• Cheerfully pitch in with occasional errands, such as grocery runs, and support other estate projects as needed.

• Take initiative in identifying and addressing horticultural and caretaking needs, always with a proactive and positive attitude.

 

Requirements:

• Horticulture experience and education, paired with a genuine love for gardening and nurturing plants.

• Enthusiasm for contributing to a team, with flexibility to assist with caretaking duties and other estate projects.

• Strong organizational and managerial skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

• Professional demeanor, with discretion and respect for the client’s privacy.

• Excellent references from current and previous employers, showcasing reliability and dedication.

• Minimum 5+ years of experience working on a private estate, with a proven track record in gardening and property care.

• Flexibility with hours, including willingness to work overtime or adjust schedules as needed.

• Valid Driver’s License required.
