Head of Service / Butler

 

CLIENT OBJECTIVE:

 

  • Seeking an experienced, mature, and professional Head Butler / Household Manager - responsible for all service, valet, small to large scale events, and household cleanliness & tidiness: across three households. Annapolis Md, Washington DC, and the Eastern Shore Md.

 

  • Most activity revolves out of the Annapolis location during the summer months. Ability to work 5 days a week: Thursday-Monday in the summer, typically 12pm-10pm and M-F 9-5pm in off season months. Flexibility is required. Looking for a thoughtful self-starter mentality, with the ability to maintain year-round productivity. Live out position, Annapolis area based is ideal.

 

  • The successful candidate will have previous experience in the management of fine homes, understand all elements of butler and valet service, and will function in a manner that protects the investment of the properties, while providing and leading outstanding personal service to the principal and guests.

 

DUTIES:

 

  • Assume responsibility for the home’s service operations and hospitality functions.
  • Work closely with current team managers on hiring, training, and supervision of service and housekeeping personnel, to uphold five-star hotel standards and quality of service. Ability to supervise on an ongoing basis. Keeping organized records, and all household inventories – across all locations.
  • Create checklists and manuals of household and service protocols, as well as shift duty responsibilities: in order to execute efficient, professional and organized working environments in the homes.
  • Establish all household organization for cupboards, closets, and drawers.
  • Assist housekeepers with large tasks.
  • When Principal is in residence, coordinate daily cleaning and laundry with the housekeeping department, and creating improvement where necessary.
  • Execute roster details for guests: coordinating arrivals and departures, greeting and guiding guests upon arrival, while interacting with all team members.
  • Manage daily formal and casual dining service, preparing table/bar for entertaining - maintaining/organizing wines and provisioning with knowledge of.
  • Work with Assistant Service Manager and Head Chef on meal planning and presentation.
  • Perform detailed valet work including maintenance of wardrobe and fine clothing, packing and unpacking for frequent trips - following detailed lists, guidelines, and overall wardrobe inventories.
  • Procurement of service, household, soft good items, and clothing - in order to manage and repurchase as necessary.
  • Coordinate with vendors and properly document for home office.
  • Plan and advance properties for household, service, and principal needs before guest arrivals.
  • Maintain and set priorities for tasks on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Understand and be proficient with Apple computers, guest A/V resources, broadband network and security systems.
  • Provide weekly reporting and proper documentation to home office.
  • Master and adhere to established purchasing and accounting system procedures.
  • Provide concierge services to principal, family members and guests when requested.
  • Provide transportation services for family and guests (for example, airport drop-off and pick-up).
  • Manage shopping and personal errands when needed.
  • Willingness to work with maintenance, housekeeping, and landscaping departments during non-guest periods/months, as needed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • Able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Communication is paramount in this organization.
  • Have verifiable references and verifiable experience in previous similar positions. Minimum 7-10 years’ experience.
  • Sharp understanding in the detailed care of fine homes and personal effects.
  • Great listening skills are a must. Ability to process without diverting from direction.
  • Excellent managerial and supervision skills, while also leading by example. No task is beneath you.
  • A keen eye for details and a good capacity to adapt to any request or situation.
  • Resilient to stress and able to handle requests in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Attention to specifics, flair for entertaining, and sophisticated in approach.
  • Understands concepts of privacy and confidentiality, invisible and available.
  • Well groomed - good general appearance, very clean and well mannered.
  • Non-drug user, physically able to perform the duties of the position and willing to take a pre-employment physical and drug screen. No drinking or smoking on the premises.
  • Able to work legally in the United States, with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
