We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified Nanny /Housekeeper (M/F) (Specialising in Autism Care) in Swanage, Dorset, UK with expertise in caring for children with autism.

The ideal candidate will be looking after 3 children, G3, G5, B5 (B5 has autism)

You will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working as a nanny, with demonstrable skills in providing compassionate care, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, and supporting the developmental needs of the child with autism. 

In addition to exceptional childcare skills, the candidate should possess professional qualifications in childcare, top nanny certifications and a valid first aid certification. 

A clean Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required. 

Vacancy duties and responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care and support for the three children ages 3, 5, and 5, including assistance with daily routines, sensory integration, and behaviour management.
  • ?Create a structured and engaging environment conducive to the development and well-being of children with autism, incorporating therapeutic activities and play-based learning.  
  • Implement individualised care plans and implement strategies recommended by therapists and healthcare professionals to support the unique needs of B5 and his siblings and create individual approach to all children in the family. 
  • Foster a warm and nurturing relationship with the children, promoting trust, security, and emotional stability.
  • ?Plan and organise age-appropriate activities, outings, and educational opportunities to enhance the social, cognitive, and physical development of the children. 
  • Provide childcare on a flexible schedule, including a few days a week, some weekends, and a few days during school holidays, while also attending to housekeeping responsibilities during non-childcare hours. For example, every Wednesday after school and alternative weekends as Nanny (e.g. 30% as Nanny and 70% Housekeeper) with the view of increasing it to 7 days as Nanny (with Children staying with their father), 7 days as Housekeeper primarily whilst the children are with their mother (50% as Nanny and 50% as Housekeeper).   
  • Flexibility is essential due to changing plans and schedules of the family. 
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe household environment, including light housekeeping duties such as tidying up children's play areas, laundry, meal preparation, and occasional grocery shopping.
  • There is a professional cleaner 3 times a week to take care of deep cleaning, so Housekeeper would be liaising with the cleaner to split and share tasks to maintain the house. 
  • Collaborate effectively with the parent, therapists, and other caregivers to ensure consistency in care and implementation of strategies to support the children's progress.?
  • Be able to administer first aid as needed and respond promptly to medical emergencies, following established protocols and procedures. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting the privacy and dignity of the family and children in your care.
  • Stay informed about best practices and advancements in autism care and child development, continuously seeking opportunities for professional development and growth. 

Profile requirement

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a nanny, with a focus on caring for children with autism.
  • ?Professional qualifications in childcare, such as a Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) or equivalent. 
  • Top nanny certifications, such as CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (NNEB), Montessori Diploma, or equivalent highly preferred.?
  • Valid certification in pediatric first aid.?DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance. 
  • Proven experience and understanding of autism spectrum disorders, with knowledge of effective strategies for supporting children with autism.
    ?Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, parents, and other caregivers. 
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability in responding to the individual needs and preferences of children with autism.
    ?Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise responsibilities effectively. 
  • A genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to providing high-quality care and support. ?
