A bit about us and what we desire and hope to find in the right match:
We are a tight knit family, with a traveling entertainment company, primarily working in the southern states: Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, etc. We travel 9 months out of the year and spend 3 months in winter quarters in Clanton, Alabama. Approximately 40 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama. Our on road season begins in February thru October. Off-road season is November thru January. When on the road, we "jump" approximately every 10 days from one location to another; give or take a few days depending on the location and magnitude of the event.
What we are looking for in the individual fulfilling this teacher / private educator position is:
Qualifications:
> 10+ years of teaching experience. A medley of public and private teaching is ideal.
> Certification in Teaching, MA preferred but will consider BA if experience is of significant import.
> Ability and exposure teaching multiple children of varying grade levels, simultaneously.
> Ability to function well with extensive travel, adapting successfully to the lifestyle.
> Strong preference to individuals who have significant experience working with families in the private sector.
> Strong desire for bi-lingual Spanish speaking: not an absolute must, but desired and helpful. Ability to work with children that English is a secondary language.
> Characteristics that will ensure success and a happy thriving dynamic to build from:
Hard-working, Dependable, Structured, Organized, Self-Directed, Flexibility, Open-Minded Perspective, Team Oriented, Communicative, Supportive and Encouraging. Loves teaching and passionate in cultivating a love of learning in children, adept at implementing and executing current curriculum, positive "thriving" mind-set, self discipline, self regulated (there is a school in place and a off-site principal this position collaborates with), compassionate, kind, honest, can-do attitude and willingness to grow with a busy, lively environment and loving supportive family.
Responsibilities:
> Educating a small group of children in a traveling school bus. :) The principals have 3 children. As well, there are two additional children attending the school.
> Current ages of the principals children: 7, 5, 4; additional children: currently ages 5 and 11.
> Successfully implementing the current curriculum, working closely with the principal of the school program enrolled in.
> Oversight and Planning to ensure and keep all children meeting developmental and educational milestones.
> Flexibility in teacher preferences and sourced educational support material.
> Self Directed, Self Management
This role has some oversight from the school principal, as a collaborator intermediary supportive dynamic. The parents appreciate communicativeness and being aware of how the children are doing in educational growth. At the same time, they do not have the ability timewise or band-width to micromanage. So taking the reins, so to speak, and making this your "school class room" with a thriving positive mind-set, will serve well!
Compensation:
> $90K annual salary (Negotiable, based on experience)
> Separate Private Housing Accommodations provided (if you have a partner the principals are willing and open to this, upon further discussion.)
> Very Generous Paid-Time Off (summer break and extensive winter break given to this position.)
Schedule / Hours:
> Approximately 30 to 33 hours a week (this is incentivising in keeping the right individual long term.)
> School Days / On-road Seasonal Hours: 12pm to 5:30pm ...5.5hrs in-class / 5 days a week (additional 1 to 1.5hrs personal school prep time, averaged per work day)
> School Days / Off-road Winter Quarters: to be discussed when adjusted. But the same 5.5hrs daily / 5 days a week until winter break.
***Our business requires advanced and intricate scheduling, nailed down every January for the upcoming season. It is crucial we have consistency, support and commitment in the individual fulfilling this position adhering to the school schedule calendar. We understand the rare and occasional emergency, sickness, and personal life dynamics that may require immediate attention. We are reasonable, compassionate and operating from a default: "common sense" mentality. We want to cultivate a successful, fulfilling, respectful and professional relationship that will grow into a long-term satisfying lifestyle with the right person. Please take some time to digest this! It's an awesome lifestyle, we love it! It's embedded in our family over multiple generations. However, we know it takes a unique personality type, strong self-awareness, an inner knowing, to make this a preferred lifestyle choice. It's not for everyone. But it's something extraordinary and incredible to the souls that gravitate to movement, adventure, and the open-road.
