A large private estate located in Burgundy, near Autun, is seeking a full-time, live-in employee for a permanent position (CDI). The role involves contributing to the upkeep of a forested park, a large kitchen garden, and a formal French garden, working as part of a versatile team of approximately ten people, under the supervision of an estate manager.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and gardening a one-hectare kitchen garden combining flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Maintaining forest paths and meadows.
  • Pruning and caring for trees.
  • Regularly trimming boxwood and hedges.
  • Performing various other tasks related to the general maintenance of the estate (painting, weeding, fence maintenance, leaf collection, minor repairs, occasionally looking after small farm animals, etc.).

 

Garden & Kitchen Garden (Spring/Summer):

  • Gardening a one-hectare vegetable garden (sowing, tracking growth, harvesting).
  • Trimming boxwood and hedges in a large formal French garden.
  • Applying modern gardening techniques: permaculture, companion planting, mulching, greenhouse cultivation.
  • Demonstrating a strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail.

 

Forest & Outdoor Work:

  • Driving and operating a tractor.
  • Using agricultural equipment (mulcher, flail mower, baler, etc.).
  • Maintaining tools and equipment (e.g., sharpening chainsaws).
  • Using a chainsaw for felling and cutting wood.
  • Performing forestry maintenance (clearing young plants, removing fallen trees, brush clearing).
  • Producing firewood (cutting, splitting).
  • Installing fences (wooden rail and wire).

Requirements

  • Hard-working, versatile, discreet, honest, and proactive with a positive attitude
  • Able to work effectively in a team.
  • Training or significant experience in horticulture, forestry, or landscape gardening.
  • Strong references required (a portfolio or photos of previous work may be requested).
  • Driver’s license (Category B) required.

Work conditions

  • Contract Length: Permanent (CDI)
  • Pay Intervals: Monthly
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday
  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week (with variations during busy periods)
  • Start Date: Anytime (ideally early 2026, but sooner for the right candidate)
  • Accommodation: On-site accommodation provided (suitable for a family)

Salary

Negotiable, dependent on experience.
