We are seeking an experienced and skilled part-time chef for a private residence in San Francisco. This role involves preparing four dinners per week, typically Monday through Thursday, with flexibility for other evenings as needed. Dinners are usually three-course meals that combine elevated and comfort cuisine. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in fine dining standards, food safety, and sanitation practices, with a flair for creativity and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
1. Dinner Preparation:
• Prepare and present three-course dinners for two principals, with occasional dinner parties for up to 10 guests.
• Ensure all meals are beautifully plated and served formally.
2. Table Setting and Service:
• Work with the household butler to set the table and serve meals.
• Occasionally run plates and set the table independently when the butler is unavailable.
3. Food Safety and Sanitation:
• Maintain the highest standards of food safety and sanitation, ensuring all meals are prepared in a clean, safe, and hygienic manner.
4. Grocery Shopping and Kitchen Stocking:
• Handle grocery shopping for the household, stock snacks, and manage pantry and kitchen inventory.
5. Kitchen and Pantry Organization:
• Keep the kitchen and pantry organized, ensuring supplies are efficiently managed and replenished as needed.
6. Menu Planning:
• Collaborate with the principals to create weekly menus tailored to their preferences, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients and dietary needs.
7. Guest Interaction:
• Adjust your demeanor to match the mood of the principals or guests, whether friendly and warm or formal and discreet.
8. Teaching and Collaboration:
• Be comfortable teaching and collaborating with the Lady of the house, who may occasionally want to learn or assist with cooking.
9. Wine Pairing (Preferred):
• Knowledge of French wine is a bonus, with the ability to suggest pairings or recommend purchases to complement meals.
Qualifications:
1. Culinary Expertise:
• A background in French and Mediterranean cuisine is strongly preferred, with the ability to create refined and elevated dishes.
2. Experience:
• Prior experience in formal households or luxury settings is essential.
3. Knowledge:
• Thorough knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and proper care for high-end cutlery, including Japanese knives.
4. Interpersonal Skills:
• Ability to “read the room” and adapt your demeanor to be warm and engaging or formal and discreet, depending on the occasion.
5. Organization:
• Exceptional organizational skills to manage pantry and kitchen inventory and maintain cleanliness.
6. Efficiency:
• Capable of working quietly and effectively in an apartment setting where discretion is valued.
