Position overview

Family of five in Coconut Grove, Miami seeks a full-time Private Chef to prepare high-end, healthy, and delicious lunches and dinners, manage the kitchen, and help curate an exceptional food experience in a warm, informal home environment. The family particularly enjoys fine-dining-quality cuisine at home, with refined flavors, beautiful plating, and restaurant-level execution.?


Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and plate:

    • Daily lunch (lighter, health-focused) for 2–5 family members

    • Daily dinner (primary meal of the day) with restaurant/fine-dining-quality execution, even in a relaxed home setting

  • Develop weekly and seasonal menus that balance:

    • Italian (pasta, risotto, composed salads, etc.; family favorites include penne alla vodka)

    • Indian (North and South Indian influences welcome), with the husband’s love of Indian cuisine reflected in at least two Indian-inspired meals per week

    • Mexican cuisine (e.g., fresh salsas, tacos, grilled meats and fish, flavorful rice and bean dishes, composed salads)

    • Asian cuisine, including noodle dishes, stir-fries/wok cookery, and chicken fried rice, along with other Asian-inspired, vegetable-forward plates

    • Other global cuisines (Mediterranean, Latin, etc.), with a fine-dining level of technique, flavor development, and presentation

  • Emphasize healthy proteins and vegetables, including:

    • High-quality salmon and other good-quality fish and seafood

    • Lean steaks and high-quality chicken

    • Creative, flavorful vegetable preparations that make it easy and enjoyable for the family to eat more greens and plant-forward dishes

  • Shop for all food and ingredients using the family’s preferred payment method/credit card.

  • Source very fresh, high-quality, and healthy ingredients (organic and local when practical).

  • Keep the refrigerator and pantry stocked with:

    • Healthy snacks

    • Fresh fruits and vegetables

    • Simple grab-and-go options for busy family members

  • Prepare:

    • Light, clean lunches (e.g., salads with protein, homemade soups, grain or legume bowls)

    • More elaborate, “fabulous” dinners as the main daily meal (for the husband particularly), with the feel of a fine-dining experience at home

  • Cater to family preferences, including:

    • Strong emphasis on Italian cuisine and pasta (especially penne alla vodka)

    • Comfort with making fresh pasta from scratch or sourcing top-quality fresh pasta

    • Enjoyment of Indian, Mexican, Asian, and a wide range of international dishes

    • Dietary notes:

      • No mushrooms for the wife

      • No pork for the family, except occasional pepperoni on pizza

  • Host and entertain:

    • Cook for small dinner parties (e.g., 2–3 additional couples) on occasion, delivering a fine-dining style multi-course experience when desired

    • Collaborate with the family to design special menus for entertaining and holidays

    • Coordinate with additional service staff or temporary help for larger events as needed

  • Kitchen management:

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen

    • Tidy all cooking areas, wash/oversee washing of dishes and cookware, and leave the kitchen in excellent condition after each service

    • Manage inventory and minimize waste

Schedule and compensation

  • Full-time role based in Coconut Grove, Miami

  • Primarily lunch and dinner service; no daily breakfast required

  • Up to 5 working days per week (schedule to be mutually agreed; some flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends when entertaining)

  • 6 weeks off per year (to be coordinated in advance with the family)

  • The family is supportive of a chef who also runs a side catering or private-event business, and can often schedule their own date nights or dinners out to align with the chef’s occasional Friday/Saturday events (a few times per month), provided it is coordinated in advance and the family’s core needs are covered.?

  • Annual salary to be determined based on:

    • Years and quality of experience

    • Culinary skill, creativity, and professionalism

    • Ability to consistently deliver fine-dining-quality meals at home, including everyday healthy cooking and elevated entertaining

Qualifications

  • Several years of experience as a private chef or in top-tier restaurant/hotel kitchens, ideally including fine-dining or upscale contemporary restaurants, serving high-end clients or luxury hospitality

  • Strong background in:

    • Italian cuisine (pasta, sauces, antipasti, salads)

    • Indian cuisine (with the ability to plan and execute at least two Indian-inspired dinners per week)

    • Mexican and Asian cuisines, including tacos, salsas, grilled dishes, noodle and wok-based dishes, and chicken fried rice

    • Healthy, modern, ingredient-driven cooking with an eye for presentation

    • Working confidently with seafood, lean meats, and vegetable-forward menus

  • Ability to design balanced menus that are:

    • Seasonal

    • Nutritionally conscious, with an emphasis on high-quality proteins and vegetables

    • Adaptable to changing schedules and last-minute needs

  • Proven experience doing independent grocery shopping and sourcing high-quality ingredients

  • Excellent kitchen hygiene and food-safety practices

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently without micromanagement
