Description

The Part-Time House Manager is responsible for overseeing general household operations through proactive oversight, hands-on care, and coordination of household services for a secondary home in Washington DC. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, reliable individual who takes pride in maintaining a well-functioning home, anticipates needs before issues arise, and communicates effectively with vendors and household/property partners. The House Manager will also be responsible for some staff coordination and preparedness when Principals are in residence and/or in advance of their arrival.

This is a part-time role, approximately 20-25 hours per week with flexibility based on Principal and property needs. There is also a potential for more hours as needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine visits to the residence to ensure all systems are secure, organized, and functioning properly.
  • Monitor household systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.
  • Report any damage or maintenance concerns and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Coordinate and oversee housekeeping team, landscapers, and other household vendors.
  • Schedule, manage and maintain vendor relationships, deadlines, invoices, and track projects.
  • Provide access to vendors, contractors, and other household service professionals.
  • Prepare the home in advance of Principals arrival, including ensuring cleaning is scheduled, restocking and inventory completed, and confirm household settings according to preferences.
  • Restore the home after Principal departure including scheduling cleanings, restocking supplies, and noting any maintenance needs or requests.
  • Run occasional errands related to the home.
  • Receive packages and mail as needed during home visits.
  • Help maintain overall organization of the home including vendor lists, and household manuals.
  • Additional duties upon request.

  • Reliable, dependable, and comfortable with overseeing a secondary home without constant supervision.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of house or property management experience, preferably with a private family.
  • Must be able to lift boxes/items up to 40 pounds and be comfortable sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with principals, team members, family office partners, and vendors.
  • Must be comfortable working independently and maintaining a high level of discretion.
  • Tech savvy with the ability to operate different home and security systems as well as work within Microsoft and Apple products.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an excellent DMV record.
  • Must have own personal vehicle that can be used for running errands.
  • Comfortable with pets.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Successfully complete an in-depth background investigation, including a cyber/social media risk evaluation.
